ZYP 2007 was a huge success!Over 100 young people participated either as a part of the program or as volunteer junior leaders. The Zanesville Youth Program's mission is to draw kids in with fun, safe activities and to teach them how much God loves them. We attempt to promote positive character qualities and to give kids a chance to begin a relationship with Jesus Christ. We then teach them how to keep that relationship growing and encourage them to be involved with a local church. On a typical Tuesday, a ZYPer checks in with his coach and then joins his team for a morning of fun and learning. We play fast-paced games, make cool crafts, sing lively songs and take part in Grandpa Jim's hands-on devotions (which often involve live animals). Thursdays are especially exciting as we usually travel by bus to a special activity. The 2007 field trips included roller skating, bowling, a pizza party at the park with the State Champion Norwell baseball team, and horseback riding, swimming and fishing at Felger Stables. During Wacky Olympics, an incredible police dog (and his officer) showed us how they train to do their job. We also had the opportunity to serve others by taking food donations to The Master's Pantry and singing at Markle Health Care. Through all of these fun activities, kids developed relationships with their coaches and junior leaders and were challenged spiritually. Over 15 kids chose to begin a relationship with Jesus and all of them learned how to "train to be like Christ." This huge success would not have been possible without the support and donations of many ZUM people. Thank you for making such an important impact on the lives of kids in our community! - Wendy B. |
